GUWAHATI: Having retained Gujarat yet again and displacing the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, mood in the BJP camp was upbeat on Monday.
“The results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh prove that people are happy and secure under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
This historic mandate reflects people’s trust in the Prime Minister’s vision and their belief in his mission to create a great, transformed India,” Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.

It was with its victory in Assam last year that the party gained a foothold in the northeast. Sonowal congratulated Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah and the workers of the party — right from the grassroots level to top leaders — in both states for ensuring the party’s win. Attributing the victory, in equal measure, to Modi’s “equal development” model, Sonowal said there is an overwhelming acceptance of the Centre’s policies and programmes among people across all sections of the society.
In Tripura, which the BJP hopes to wrest from the Left Front next year, the state unit of the party hailed the results as a victory over “conspiratorial propaganda”. “Political forces across the entire spectrum had joined hands to work against BJP by resorting to divisive politics like casteism, communalism, and even secretly seeking help from Pakistan. Under the leadership of Modiji and Amit bhai, the party weathered all storms,” Tripura BJP chief Biplab Deb said. “On September 27 Amitbhai had addressed 10 lakh prishtha pramukhs in Gujarat and this gave a clear indication of things to come.
The solid organization and visionary policies of the party and its supreme leaders achieved the great victory,” he added. Central observer Sunil Deodhar and Deb attended the party’s gathering in Agartala and joined in the celebrations at the state unit office. Party leaders distributed sweets and played with colours. Colourful rallies were organized with the photographs of PM Modi and party president Amit Shah. The party workers danced to victory songs of BJP in the local language. “The election outcome in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will greatly enthuse BJP workers in Tripura and boost the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections in Tripura,” Deb said.
